Biobased Polymers – New Green Plastic

A report which famously went on to state that “without significant action, there may be more plastic than fish in the ocean, by weight, by 2050”. Bioplastics or Biobased Polymers can be a future solution for this problem near future. Bioplastics Biobased plastics or simply bioplastics made from renewable resources can be naturally recycled by biological processes

Biobased Polymers are plastics derived from renewable biomass sources, such as vegetable fats and oils, corn starch, or switchgrass.

A new energy and environment saving option to save fossil fuels. Bioplastics are plastic materials that are either biodegradable or derived from renewable resources or both.

Advantages of Biobased Polymers are as follows-

  1. Reduction in CO2 emissions
As per study Biobased Polymers takes only about 0.8 metric tons of CO2 to create bio-plastics but on other hand it is 3.2 metric tons for Petrobased polymers plastics preparation which directly increases green house gases on Earth.
  2. Consumes less energy
The manufacturing process of biodegradable plastics requires less amount of energy and does not need fossil fuels to be recycled. Conversely, traditional plastics demand more energy in production and at the same time requires the burning of fossil fuel. Since less energy is needed, more Biobased Polymerscan be produced while there is less pollution in the environment.
  3. Cheaper alternative
Biobased Polymers are just not helping to reduce CO2 but also cheaper than Biobased Polymers polymers plastics especially with the heavy oil prices.
  4. Waste
Biobased Polymers don’t generate as much toxic as done by normal typical plastics.
  5. Reduced carbon footprint
Oil based plastics need fossil fuels for all the process to become a final product but bio-plastics don’t need this.
  6. Multiple end-of-life points
Valuable raw material which is being used by Petrobased polymers plastic is can be reclaimed and recycled into other products.

I’m not sure exactly why but this site is loading very slow for me. Is anyone else having this problem or is it a problem on my end? I’ll check back later on and see if the problem still exists.
